INTRODUCTIONS

Councillors will elect a Chair for the meeting.

 

The Chair will introduce those present and make any necessary announcements.

 

The Chair and any other Councillors who are present will make any declarations as required by the Councillors’ Code of Conduct.

There were no declarations of interest.

APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE

Minutes:

Apologies were received from Darren Evans the City Warden.

The Action Log of the previous Stoneygate Community Meeting, held on 6 December 2018, is attached and Members will be asked to confirm them as a correct record.

The action log from the last meeting held on 6 December 2018 was agreed as a correct record.

26.

WARD COUNCILLORS FEEDBACK pdf icon PDF 239 KB

The Ward Councillors will provide an update on ward related matters.

Minutes:

The Chair updated the meeting on housing related work he had been involved in from surgery meetings.

 

Residents informed of a petition proposing a one-way flow of traffic on Rowsley Street with the potential to change traffic flow around Evington Road.

 

The Chair thanked Councillor Chaplin for her long-term support as co councillor and wished her all the best.

 

Councillor Master requested clarity and a plan of amendments to traffic orders whilst the work on London Road was in progress.

 

Yellow markings along Evington Road indicated that officers were investigating possibilities to increase parking capacity and reduce footpath widths.

 

Work on traffic calming measures had completed on Stoughton Drive North.

 

School Parking Safety Scheme in the Stoneygate Ward was currently in progress and Medway Primary School had been planned for this financial Year.

 

Residents were informed that the Herschell Street Residents Parking Scheme had the potential to go live but no timeframe was available and with more people in support of the scheme this could possibly be extended to further streets nearby but was something that would have to be revisited at a later date.

 

De Montfort University students had been involved with the mass volunteering day, clearing up various areas of the ward. All those involved were praised for their support.

 

After further consultation Sparkenhoe Primary School would be transferred to an academy status.

 

Councillor Master commended Councillor Chaplin for her work and support over the years and thanked her for her contribution.

 

Councillor Chaplin informed residents it would be the last community meeting she would be at as their ward Councillor and thanked everyone for their continuous support.

 

Residents were commended for their continuous attendance to the ward meetings and Councillor Chaplin was delighted with the outcome of the petition for the Residential Parking Scheme and residents approach to ward matters and encouraged residents to remain active.

 

An outline of recent involvement during Council meetings was distributed and is attached for information.

27.

POLICE UPDATE

Officers from Leicestershire Police will be at the meeting to provide an update on police issues in the ward.

The Police were unable to attend the meeting and no update was provided.

28.

CITY WARDEN UPDATE

The City Warden will give an update on issues in the ward.

Minutes:

The City Warden was unable to attend the meeting.

 

Residents raised their concerns that landlords across the ward were involved in fly tipping, especially in the conservation area.

 

Reports of bins being left on the streets around Evington Road were raised.

There will be a presentation from the An-Nasihah Educational Trust from the Mayfield Centre.

Minutes:

A representative from The Nasihah Centre formerly the Mayfield Centre was in attendance at the meeting and delivered a presentation on the running of the centre.

 

Information on the work the centre had been involved in was given with details of the different activities that take place at the centre. Plans for future projects were outlined and information for booking the venue was made available to residents.

 

Previously concerns over traffic congestion had been raised which had now been resolved through deploying volunteers from the centre on a rota system during peak times and security at the centre had been enhanced with the new CCTV system.

WARD COMMUNITY BUDGET

Councillors are reminded that under the Council’s Code of Conduct they should declare any interest they may have in budget applications.

 

An update on the Ward Community Budget will be provided at the meeting.

 

Minutes:

A representative from Straight Path Resettlement attended the meeting and updated on the work that had been carried out using funding provided through the Ward Community Budget:

 

It was noted that:

·      Straight Path Resettlement worked with ex-offenders on release from custody to connect with local faith groups.

 

·      The funding had helped carry out work with those that had been released from prison and those with family members in the prison system.

 

·      The funding had helped the organisation build its profile and make connections around the city.

 

·      Plans moving forward, included developing the organisation further and working with existing organisations.

 

It was suggested that the organisation could benefit from government funding and working with the Probation Service.

 

The Ward Community Engagement Officer gave an update on the Ward Budget:

 

·      It was reported that 12 Applications had been supported but were yet to be signed off.

 

·      The closing budget for the ward was £0.00
