Protect Apex Galleried Windows and Daylight Rights in Leicester

We the undersigned petition the council to 1. Acknowledge the loss of amenity caused by extensions built directly in front of apex galleried windows. 2. Develop and adopt clear local planning guidance (such as an SPD) and a strict planning policy to legally protect and safeguard these unique architectural features from overshadowing and loss of light. 3. Require planners to factor in the loss of interior daylight and outlook for existing homes when reviewing first-floor extension and extensive development applications in front of apex galleried windows

We, the undersigned residents of Leicester, call on the Leicester City Council to urgently address the vulnerability of apex galleried windows in our neighbourhoods. Currently, there is no Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) policy protecting these architectural features. As a result, intrusive first-floor extension developments are being approved. These developments block natural light and destroy the essential purpose of apex windows, which is to provide healthy, natural outlooks and illumination.
Without clear local planning guidance, residents are at risk of losing their amenity, light, privacy, well-being, and property value.
