ALLOCATION OF BASIC NEED CAPITAL FUNDS - PRIMARY PUPIL PLACE PLANNING

Purpose:

To seek approval for additional detailed proposals for the allocation of Basic Need funding to meet continued pressing city primary pupil place planning requirements. The decision will consider the allocation of £11.9 million of funding from the existing Basic Need Policy Provision.

Decision:

 

1.   To approve the allocation of £1.7m of funding for Phase 1 projects from the existing Basic Need policy provision of £16.8m.

 

2.   To approve the allocation of £10.2m of funding for Phase 2 projects from the existing Basic Need policy provision of £16.8; and

 

3.  To agree that the Strategic Director, Children’s Services, in consultation with the Assistant City Mayor – Children, Young People and Schools has delegated authority to vary the amounts of individual schemes within the total funding allocated.

Reasons for the decision:

To ensure the local authority meets its statutory duty to provide sufficient pupil places in its area.

Alternative options:

Range of options originally set out in report to Scrutiny on 19 September 2013.  Phase 1 of proposals approved on 2 April 2013 and Phase 2 options set out in report to Scrutiny on 29 October 2013.
