LEADER'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Employee of the Year Award

 

The Leader announced that Jagjit Singh Bains, a Team Manager in Domiciliary Care Service, Adults & Housing, was awarded Council Worker of the Year at the Local Government Awards. The Leader noted that he had made considerable efforts in improving the Home Care Service and that this was a extremely impressive achievement.

 

Jagjit then addressed the Cabinet. He thanked all those that had voted for him including his colleagues, the Cabinet and family members. He commented that he gained a great deal of satisfaction working in local government where he had undertaken a variety of roles. He also praised his team, in particular his Manager, Maureen Dover and he dedicated this award to all of them.

LOCAL AREA AGREEMENT ANNUAL REVIEW - LEICESTER'S SELF ASSESSMENT pdf icon PDF 21 KB

Councillor Willmott submits a report that seeks Cabinet’s endorsement of the attached ‘self assessment’ of performance over the first year of Leicester’s Local Area Agreement.

Councillor Willmott submitted a report that sought Cabinet’s endorsement of the ‘self assessment’ of performance over the first year of Leicester’s Local Area Agreement.

 

The Director of Partnership, Performance and Planning outlined the key points regarding performance as detailed in the ‘self assessment’ document.

 

The Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group wished the Cabinet all the best in meeting targets in the future.

 

RESOLVED:

that the self assessment of performance over the first year of Leicester’s Local Area Agreement, be endorsed.

PENSIONS POLICY - APPLICATION OF EMPLOYERS DISCRETION pdf icon PDF 33 KB

Councillor Willmott submits a report that updates Cabinet on changes to Local Government and Teachers Pension Schemes, the impact on the Council and its employees and seeks a decision on the future application of ’added years’ pension discretion for teachers.  Cabinet is recommended to decide on the preferred way forward to address anomalies on the application of employer discretion for teaching and non-teaching staff in cases of early retirement for reasons of redundancy or efficiency, giving consideration to the options set out in paragraph 6.7 of the report.

The Leader commented that he felt it was important to have consistency across the Council’s employee policies.

 

RESOLVED:
that the Cabinet’s preferred way forward to address current anomalies on the application of employer discretion for teaching and non-teaching staff in cases of early retirement for reasons of redundancy or efficiency, be 6.7a) of the report, as detailed below.

 

(6.7a) Remove the current provision for teachers on the basis that consistency between teaching and non-teaching staff is important. This would mean that no discretion would apply in any case and therefore no “leverage” to help in the management of downsizing or displacement)
