Purpose:

To lease the building to the African Heritage Alliance.

Decision:

  1. African Heritage Alliance be granted a 5 year full repairing lease of African Caribbean Centre premises, with an initial rental of £1 pa and other terms in accordance with the Council’s standard community asset lease.

 

  1. £60k be released from the Black Lives Matter policy provision as a capital grant contribution towards the cost of maintaining the centre

Reasons for the decision:

Following consultation on the use and future running of African Caribbean Centre the preferred option is to provide an opportunity for Community organisations to take on the lease and running of the centre.

Options considered are listed in paragraph 3.13 of the report.

Paragraph 3.15 of the report outlines the decision to advertise for lease report dated 31/05/2022.
