Decision details

Introduction of Automatic Number Plate Recognition enforcement cameras to support the School Streets scheme at Overdale Infant and Junior Schools

Decision Maker: Assistant City Mayor - Environment and Transport

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To add ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) enforcement cameras to Northfold Road and Eastcourt Road which form the school street scheme for Overdale Infant and Junior Schools.

Decision:

To approve:

-         the installation of ANPR cameras to enforce the current prohibition of driving order in place as part of the school street.

Reasons for the decision:

The school street was installed in February 2022 under an experimental traffic regulation order.  In August 2023 the order was made permanent.  However, without enforcement support from the Police and staffing resources from the school or the council operate a closure, it has been recognised that drivers are contravening the prohibition of driving order.

Alternative options:

1.       Remove the school street

2.       Use school resources to operate the closure.

3.       Use council staffing resources to operate the closure.

4.       A one – way system was consulted on.
