Purpose:

To implement the Council’s responsibilities under the Childcare Act 2006.

Decision:

Transfer some provision to the Private, Voluntary and Independent sector and schools with some closures.

Reasons for the decision:

That once taking into consideration the factors of sufficiency of childcare places, budgetary pressures and that the Local Authority should be the provider of the last resort for pre-school provision.

Alternative options:

The Options are set out in full in paragraph 6 of the report.  In summary these are:-

 

Option A - Cease all provision by July 2016.

 

Option B - Implement a phased exit from all maintained settings.

 

Option C - Transfer some provision to PVI and schools with some closures.
