COLLABORATE BUSINESS PROJECT

Decision Maker: City Mayor (Individual Decision)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To deliver and be the accountable body for an £3.1m externally funded project which will provide Business Support to small and medium sized enterprises in Leicestershire who are looking to grow and develop their business targeted at the 8 priority sectors of the LLEP.

Decision:

Accept the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding (£3.1m) and agree for the city council to act as accountable body in relation to it and add the capital grants fund element of the project (£1.2m) to the capital programme.

Reasons for the decision:

This project will enable additional externally funded support to be provided to small to medium sized enterprises in Leicester and Leicestershire, including the delivery of a capital grant scheme for businesses.

Alternative options:

To do nothing, would limit the support available to businesses which can help them to grow and develop which will in turn create new jobs and increase Leicester’s economy.  This also helps to deliver a key priority of the Economic Action Plan (2016-2020).
