GET INSPIRED AND YOUTH HUB EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND PROJECT

Decision Maker: City Mayor (Individual Decision)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To approve the Council to be the accountable body for the delivery of the Get Inspired Leicester European Social Fund (ESF) to reduce youth unemployment in Leicester by providing support and access to training, apprenticeships, work experience, or jobs.

Decision:

To accept £3,995,057.44 of funding from the European Social Fund to reduce youth unemployment and agree for the City Council to act as Accountable Body in relation to it.

Reasons for the decision:

This funding will provide resources for the Get Inspired programme, aimed at unemployed 16 – 25-year old Leicester residents. The programme will deliver targeted employability support and reduce youth unemployment increasing the take up of apprenticeships, work experience, traineeships, and jobs. This is a key project that will help individuals to secure opportunities and will also help to support the city’s economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alternative options:

Not accepting the funding would limit the support available for young people to progress into employment, training or education, thereby not reducing the level of youth unemployment.
