Purpose:

This decision finalises the project proposals arising from the successful bid made to the Department for Transport, under the Better Bus Area Fund.

Decision:

1) The construction of the highway infrastructure improvements as detailed on the scheme drawings be approved.

 

2) The City Council’s contribution of £1.542m to the scheme from the transport capital programmes as detailed in the financial section of the report be approved.

 

3) The advertisement of Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO's) required to implement the scheme be approved.

 

4) The City Barrister to enter into an agreement with Leicestershire County Council to jointly fund the scheme.



Reasons for the decision:

The project aims to deliver a number of improvements to the bus service on the Aylestone Corridor, including, better and more reliable journey times, reduced congestion, increased bus patronage due to the improved service, reduction in carbon emissions, a reduction in accidents, and benefits to the business community in terms of access to work for employees and freed up space for delivery vehicles.

A number of options / configurations for the scheme were considered and consulted on as part of the development of the project.
