The City Council is a Lead Local Flood Authority and has a statutory duty to develop maintain, review, update as well as apply, and monitor the application of a strategy for managing local flood risk.

Approve Leicester’s Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (December 2014) for Pro-actively Managing Flood Risk in Leicester.

In order to pro-actively tackle the risk of flooding in Leicester, the City Council, as a Lead Local Flood Authority, has a statutory duty to produce and implement a strategy to manage local flood risk. The publication of a strategy is also a key action in the Council's Adaptation Action Plan. Flooding has been identified as one of the main risks of climate change likely to face Leicester. The action plan contained within the proposed Local Flood Risk Management Strategy sets out the short, medium and long term projects that will reduce flood risk to Leicester residents.

The Strategy was developed following public and stakeholder engagement and formal consultation to confirm objectives and priorities for flood risk management in Leicester.
