INTRODUCTIONS

The Chair will introduce those present and make any necessary announcements.

 

The Chair and any other Councillors who are present will make any necessary

declarations as required by the Councillor’s Code of Conduct.

Councillor Malik chair for the meeting, welcomed everyone and led on introductions.

APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE

Minutes:

There were apologies for absence from the City Warden, Darren Evans & Mark Govan from Traffic & Highways.

15.

CROWDFUND LEICESTER pdf icon PDF 195 KB

An Officer will be present at the meeting to give a presentation on the Crowdfunding programme.

Minutes:

Attendees were asked to note a presentation relating to Crowd Fund Leicester, a new initiative designed to establish projects that benefit local communities.

·      This crowdfunding platform allowed people to potentially access the City Mayor’s Community Engagement Fund and areas of Council owned land.

·      CrowdFund were now also working much more with local business who were supporting projects. (copy attached)

 

ACTION: Residents to forward any ideas or proposals for projects that would enhance the community to the Crowd Fund Leicester team. Further information can be found by accessing the link below:

16.

WARD COUNCILLORS FEEDBACK

The Spinney Hills Ward Councillors will provide an update on the issues they have been dealing with.

 

Minutes:

The Chair reported that:

·      A consultation was in progress for the proposed conversion of streets around Spinney Hill Primary school to a one-way system to ease traffic flow around the school and for the safety of pupils and local residents.

·      There were no plans to convert other streets due to the safety of children around the school being a priority.

·      Educating parents and helping them understand safety measures to keep children safe was important.

 

·      The consultation process for the Dorothy Road proposal had completed and outcomes of that were being considered.

·      Constance Road and Gwendolen Road were also being considered for changes to ease traffic flow.

 

·      Repairs had been carried out to the cricket pitch on Spinney Hill Park.

·      Highways work was still in progress around the ward.

 

Councillor Dr Chowdhury reported that:

·      The outcome of request for CCTV outside the mosque on East Park Road and the potential to change Bradbourne Road to one way was still awaited.

 

·      Surgeries were held every week by ward Councillors where personal issues can be raised.

·      The first Friday of the month surgeries are held at the Baptist Church, Linden Street, Leicester, LE5 5EE.

·      Every second Friday surgeries are held at the Pakistani Youth Community Association (PYCA) 58 Earl Howe Street, Leicester LE2 0DF.

·      Every third Friday of the month surgeries are held at Mayflower Methodist Church, Ethel Road, Leicester LE5 5ND.

·      The last Friday of every month surgeries are held at Leicester Central Mosque, Conduit Street, Leicester LE2 0JN.

17.

TRAFFIC AND HIGHWAYS UPDATE

An update on Highways and Traffic in the Spinney Hills Ward will be provided.

Minutes:

The Traffic and Highways Officers were not present at the meeting.

 

ACTION: An Officer from Traffic and Highways to report by the next meeting on what streets have had potholes repaired within the ward and what streets were still outstanding.

 

ACTION: An Officer from Traffic and Highways to provide a full update on Highways matters across the ward to the next meeting.

18.

POLICE UPDATE

The Police will give an update on activities in the Ward.

Minutes:

PC David Barber and PCSO Martin Sutton were in attendance. All to note:

·      Recent incidents in Spinney Hill Park with knife crime were drug related and not random attacks.

·      Residents urged to use park freely and not be alarmed by the increase in police patrol.

·      Police confirmed a man had been sentenced and is now in custody in relation to offences committed on the park.

·      Few young people who cause trouble on the park had been identified and Police were working on resolving the issue of anti-social behaviour on the park and identify those involved.

 

PC Barber reminded those present that as it had started getting dark early and the weather had started to change all residents must ensure they close all windows and lock cars before leaving unattended. 

19.

CITY WARDEN UPDATE pdf icon PDF 370 KB

The City Warden will provide an update on environmental and enforcement issues in the Ward.

The City Warden was not present but a leaflet updating on matters addressed was distributed (attached).

20.

WARD COMMUNITY BUDGET

Councillors are reminded that they will need to declare any interest they

may have in budget applications.

 

An update will be given on the Ward Community budget.

Minutes:

The Ward Community Engagement Officer gave an update on the Ward Budget. It was noted that the total budget allocation for this municipal year was £19,244.00

The remaining balance of the budget was £10,119.00

 

Councillor Dr Chowdhury urged residents to apply for the budget that was available to support projects for residents of the ward.

 

The Ward Community Engagement Officer could be contacted to assist with the application process for the ward budget funding.
