31.

INTRODUCTIONS AND APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE

The Chair will introduce those present and make any necessary announcements.

 

The Chair and any other Councillors who are present will make any declarations as required by the Councillors’ Code of Conduct.

Minutes:

Councillor Joshi as Chair of the meeting led on introductions.

 

It was noted there were no apologies for absence.

 

Although there was only one member of the public in attendance in the virtual meeting, Members felt it was important to continue with the meeting.

The Action Log of the North Evington Community Meeting held on 12 March 2020 is attached for information and discussion.

The Action Log of the meeting of the North Evington Ward Meeting held on 12 March 2020 was confirmed as correct.

33.

LOCAL POLICING UPDATE

Officers from the Local Policing Unit will be at the meeting to provide an update on police issues in the North Evington Ward,

Minutes:

PC David Barber who was in attendance representing the local policing unit noted that there had been a change in personnel since the last meeting and that Sergeant Ryan Hayes was new in role for the North Evington area.

 

As part of the local policing update in relation to crime in the area, it was noted that:

·         Catalytic convertors from vehicles were being targeted and anyone with any information was urged to share this with the police

·         Warmer weathers had resulted in gatherings on parks and local hotspots, youth had resumed congregating within the Larch Street area and it was suggested that regular patrol were to commence to tackle the concerns

·         Covid restrictions were still in place and residents were asked to maintain these

 

The Officer to the opportunity to note that:

·         It had been a very challenging year for all frontline workers

·         Thoughts and prayers were sent out to all those who had lost loved ones

·         Voluntary organisations had been thanked for the work they had carried out supporting the vulnerable and it was noted that it was important to acknowledge their efforts

 

It was further noted that Census Day was on 21 March and it was very important to complete and return the forms. Additional support was available online.

 

PC Barber further shared his sincere gratitude to all those on the frontline during the challenging times.

 

Councillor Fonseca commended the police for the fantastic communications with elected Members.

34.

WARD COUNCILLORS' FEEDBACK

The North Evington Ward Councillors provide an update on the issues they have been dealing with in the ward.

Minutes:

Ward Councillors noted that:

·         Support for constituents continued via phone and email services

·         Highways and housing matters continued to be main areas of concerns for residents

·         Sign posting residents for covid support

·         Engaging with the police for neighbourhood issues

·         Working with schools and local community groups applyting for ward funding

·         Providing additional support to local groups providing care to the vulnerable and foodbanks.

35.

HIGHWAYS UPDATE

Highways Officers will be present to provide an update on highway matters in North Evington.

Minutes:

The Highways Officer in attendance provided an update to the meeting. It was noted that:

·         Green Lane Road had a pop up one-way system in place, with current works ongoing to improve 24 of the front walls outside of the properties

·         Coleman Road, Broad Avenue and Hastings Road were to be resurfaced in this financial year

·         Streets around the Ghudwara where parking concerns had been raised were to be considered as part of a Residential Scheme, but the scheme implementation date was yet to be confirmed

 

The following highways concerns were raised:

·         Visibility at the junction of Harewood Road onto Humberstone Road

·         Parking on double yellow lines outside of various schools across the ward with a request of for additional Traffic Warden patrols.

36.

HOUSING UPDATE

Housing officers will be present to provide an update on housing matters in the North Evington Ward,

Minutes:

The Housing Officer noted that

·         although there had been staff shortages, staff numbers were slowly returning back to normal

·         there were planned targeted shrub removals within the ward

·         the pod-cam could return to a specific area of concern on the ward

 

Members noted that the Housing Team were very cooperative and hoped that the relation continued.

37.

CITY WARDEN UPDATE

The local City Warden will be present to provide an update on any environmental issues in the ward.

Minutes:

As part of the City Warden update, it was noted that:

·         Work had been carried out to secure the outdoor gyms and ballcourts as part of the restrictions

·         City Wardens continued to provide support at the recycling site at Gypsum Close

·         The day to day work continued

·         Concerns with bins left out on the pedestrian footways on Green Lane Road was being actioned

·         Fly-tipping had increased and was being addressed with constant communications with residents on how to dispose of their household waste and proposed city wide projects to tackle this

·         Pan spitting signage had been installed at various locations across the Green Lane Road area.

 

It was further noted that the Litter picking initiative had been a success, with litter being a major citywide issue.

38.

COMMUNITY WARD BUDGET

Councillors are reminded that under the Council’s Code of Conduct they should declare any interest they may have in the budget applications.

 

An update on the Community Meeting ward Budget will be provided at the meeting.

Minutes:

The Ward Community Engagement Officer provided a summary of the Ward Budget.

 

It was noted that projects to support the local communities during the difficult times would be supported and residents were urged to apply.

39.

ANY OTHER URGENT BUSINESS

Minutes:

There being no items of urgent business the meeting closed at 7:30pm
