LORD MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Minutes:

COMMUNITY COVENANT

The Lord Mayor was pleased to announce that immediately prior to this meeting the Council had signed the Community Covenant.  The Covenant committed the Council to continuing to providing support to armed forces communities in our local area and was a further illustration of the strong bond between the City and the armed forces.

 

LORD MAYOR’S APPEAL

The Lord Mayor was delighted to announce that in excess of £11,000 has so far been raised for Macmillan Cancer Care and thanked everyone who had helped in any way so far.  The next major event for the appeal would be the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Concert which was to take place on 3 December with tickets available from the Civic Office.  The Lord Mayor invited all present.

 

COUNCILLOR GLOVER

The Lord Mayor welcomed Councillor Glover following her recent health issues.

DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

Minutes:

The Lord Mayor invited Members to declare any interests they might have in the business on the agenda.

 

No declarations of interest were made.

CONFERMENT OF HONORARY FREEDOM OF THE CITY pdf icon PDF 84 KB

Minutes:

The Lord Mayor noted that in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972 [Section 249 (5)] and in compliance with City Council procedure Rule 3a the special meeting had been called to consider nominations for the granting of Freedom of the City.

 

Moved by Councillor Palmer, seconded by Councillor Barton and carried:

 

22.       That the City Council under and by virtue of the provisions of Section 249 (5) of the Local Government Act 1972 confers on the Leicester Ladies Hockey Club the Honorary Freedom of the City of Leicester and causes them to be admitted as Honorary Freeman of said City in recognition and appreciation of the honour and distinction brought to the city by their sporting achievements and by their commitment to the development of their members and of sporting relationships across the City and the world.
