Lord Mayor's Announcements Minutes: 1. Former Councillor Manjula Sood The Lord Mayor informed Council that a portrait of Manjula Sood was being prepared for the stairwell outside of the Lord Mayor’s Parlous, alongside portraits of previous Lord Mayor’s who passed away during service. This will provide a lasting reminder for generations to come of the dedication and service Manjula Sood gave to the City of Leicester and the legacy she left behind.
2. International Women’s Day The Lord Mayor highlighted to opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and encourage gender equality. The day falls on 8 March each year and has been celebrated since 1911. The Lord Mayor attendws a number of events across the city which allowed guests to share their experiences and successes, and gave them chance to reflect on working together for the advancement of women worldwide.
3. Charity Ball The Lord Mayor reminded members of the forthcoming Masked Ball on on Friday 24 April 2026 at Devonshire Place, the Ball will raise funds for two charities, The Joe Humphries Memorial Trust and Andys Man Club. Tickets would be made available from the Civic Office. |

Declarations of Interest Minutes: The Lord Mayor in invited members to declare any interests they might have in the business for this Special Council meeting.
There were no declarations of interest.

Honorary Freedom of the City Minutes: Note Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 allows the City Council to “admit to be honorary freemen or honorary freewomen of the place or area for which it is the authority— (a)persons of distinction, and (b)persons who have, in the opinion of the authority, rendered eminent services to that place or area.” Such a decision must be made by a resolution passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon at a special meeting of the Council.
City Mayor, seconded by Councillor Halford and moved:
“That the City Council under and by virtue of the provisions of Section 249 (5) of the Local Government Act 1972 confers on Mr Keith Beaumont the Honorary Freedom of the City of Leicester and causes him to be admitted as Honorary Freeman of Leicester.”
After putting the motion to the vote, the Lord Mayor declared the motion carried.
The Lord Mayor closed the special meeting of Council and proceeded to open the ordinary meeting of Council. |
