Keep The West End Centre open for Community Use

We the undersigned petition the council to We the undersigned petition the council to - engage with Asian Lunch Seva (a Non-Profit Organisation and Service User) to constructively agree a way forward whereby the West End Centre remains open for the benefit of ALL current service users and any further use for the benefit of the local Community

The West End Centre on Andrewes Street, Leicester, LE3 5PA is currently used by a number of service users providing a range of services such as disabled care and support services, feeding the Elderly community and providing food for the Homeless and needy community of Leicester. There are a number of playgroups and activities for the younger generation and activities promoting health and vitality. At the weekends, the Centre is a hub for a local Church group. In addition, the Centre houses the Constituency Office of a local MP. The Centre is the focal point of the local Community. It is the go to place for local activities and supports the surrounding low income community. Leicester City Council have, without any consultation whatsoever, given notice to all User groups to vacate the premises by 31st March 2025. Asian Lunch Seva have reached out to the Council to enter into dialogue to keep the Centre open for the benefit of ALL user groups. However the Council have simply refused to engage. Closure of the West End Centre will have a very detrimental effect on the Local Community which currently lacks any alternative facilities that could be used in its absence. Further we have engaged with the local police authority who have expressed concern that any closure of the Centre will more than likely result in an escalation of crime in the area. This is not in the interests of the local Community nor Leicester in general. We therefore urge the Leicester Community to support our Petition to get the Council the engage with Asian Lunch Seva to keep the West End Centre open for all service users and the Local community.
