Residents of Prestwold Road are experiencing a long-standing and worsening parking problem that is having a significant impact on daily life.
For many years, a substantial number of vehicles parked on Prestwold Road have not belonged to local residents. The street is increasingly being used by nearby businesses, garages, and non-residents for long-term vehicle parking and storage. As a result, residents are frequently unable to park near their own homes.
Many residents return from work, shopping trips, medical appointments, and school runs only to find that no parking spaces are available. Families with young children, elderly residents, disabled residents, and those carrying shopping are often forced to park a considerable distance away from their homes because available spaces have been occupied by non-resident vehicles.
Residents have also raised concerns regarding vehicles associated with nearby garages being parked on the street for extended periods, vehicles appearing to be stored rather than actively used, and vehicles with obscured or hidden registration plates. These issues contribute to the ongoing shortage of parking and create frustration for those who live on the road.
Despite being residents and council taxpayers, many people living on Prestwold Road are regularly unable to access reasonable parking near their own properties. The current situation is unfair, unsustainable, and continues to negatively affect the quality of life of local residents.
We therefore call upon Leicester City Council to urgently investigate the parking situation on Prestwold Road and undertake a formal parking review. We request that the Council considers the introduction of a residents' parking permit scheme, time-limited parking restrictions, increased parking enforcement, and any other appropriate measures necessary to ensure that residents have fair access to parking outside or close to their homes.
The residents of Prestwold Road believe that action is now
required to address this long-standing issue and to protect the
interests of those who live in the area.
