Ban allotment bonfires in residential areas of Leicester

We the undersigned petition the council to Ban allotment bonfires in residential areas of Leicester

We the following wish to petition for a ban on allotment bonfires in residential areas of Leicester City. These bonfires are damaging the health and mental wellbeing of residents. They are unable to enjoy their gardens on nice days or hang out washing. This also means we must close our windows preventing fresh air to access our houses.

There are also safety risks involved due to the proximity to the houses, hot embers have landed in residents gardens creating a potential fire risk.

This will also feed into achieving the Council’s aim of becoming carbon neutral and climate adapted city by 2030. Bonfires can produce 'greenhouse' gases such as carbon dioxide which add to global warming. Bonfires can also produce other poisonous gases and fine particles which can affect human health. It will also encourage composting and redirect waste to recycling facilities.

Additionally, there is no official supervision of these fires to ensure that the bonfires do not contain materials which are illegal to burn.

If a complete ban is not enforced we then propose a ban of allotment bonfires during daylight hours in residential areas of Leicester City.
