Hungarton Boulevard Residents Demand Speed Restrictions and Barriers Now

We the undersigned petition the council to Residents demand the following safeguards before someone is killed: 1. A 20 mph speed limit along Hungarton Boulevard (LE5 1DF and 1HT) - in line with the amended speed limit in Humberstone Village; 2. Barriers along the bend to protect homes and keep residents safe when vehicles leave the road; and 3. Speed cameras to issue penalties to speeding drivers, acting as a deterrent and enforcing the speed limit.

This mother's head was crushed when a car smashed into her house as she slept beside her children.

Help us make sure it never happens again - not to her, not to anybody.

The all too frequent speeding along Hungarton Boulevard, particularly at night, with vehicles careering off the road at the bend and crashing into homes, is a serious threat to life. The latest incident on April 18th, 2021 involved a car crashing through gardens and this mother's living room wall while she slept there with her two young children. The front of the house was destroyed and she was left with life-altering injuries and lasting mental trauma.

"I cannot sleep. I get nightmares and flashbacks and so do my children. I haven't been able to eat or take care of myself. I lost my dignity, my home, my peace of mind."

The injured family and local residents remain frightened and unable to rest peacefully in their homes for fear of the next life-threatening incident.
